A Message from Gary Hocevar, Chief Education Officer/Principal

October, 2008

Dear Parents:

Every year during the month of October public schools , as required by Florida statute, must submit their Annual School Report.  This data driven annual report is a complete summary of the academic progress, successes, financial soundness and future challenges of the school community and includes the  Board’s Audited Financial Report to the State’s Auditor General’s office.

In the past, the Department of Education in Tallahassee has allowed public charter schools to submit a report that reflects the school’s personality in format and design. That freedom has changed. Each public school is now required to submit the report in a standardized format which is completed by the school on a template and available to the general public via the Department of Education web site.  TCMS has a link on our web site for your convenience.  This report will be available sometime during the month of November.

I encourage you to review the report at your convenience.

Also, the DOE requires each public school, which does not meet anticipated student academic growth requirements, to provide a yearly School Improvement Plan, or SIP. The public schools have been required to undertake a yearly SIP for the last 15 years.  Because we are such a high performing middle school, TCMS is not required to comply with this directive. However, I believe there is always room for growth in this institution.

TCMS must continue to raise the bar and set even higher standards each year. Therefore, we have also submitted a 2008.2009 School Improvement Plan. This is now available for your review both on the DOE web site and the TCMS web site.

Every school and district in the state of Florida that receives public funding shall by law, be held fully accountable in all aspects of curriculum, instruction and operation.  Each year TCMS is fully accountable and we are proud of that fact.
