Attention 8th grade parents!  As decisions are being made, please inform Mrs. Zak (susan.zak@tcmstornadoes.com) as to where your child plans to attend high school if it is different than their assigned neighborhood school.  Congratulations to all of our 8th graders for their acceptances into the magnet and private high schools to which they applied.

Attention 8th grade parents!  The high school magnet program deadline is fast approaching!  The deadline is Wednesday, January 12 to apply to any of the following programs:  Tampa Bay Tech Academy of Health or Architecture, International Baccalaureate, Jefferson International Studies, Middleton Engineering or STEM, Blake Performing/Visual Arts, Urban Teaching Academy or MAPS at Lennard or Leto.  Apply online at the school district website at www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/magnet.

To apply to any of the thirteen technical programs at Tampa Bay Technical High School, parents must apply directly through the TBT website at www.mytbt.com.  It is a separate application from the magnet health and architecture programs.

King KAPS is coming to TCMS!  Mr. Alege, coordinator of the King Advanced Placement Scholars Program, will be here in the café on Wednesday, January 26 at 6 pm to talk to 8th graders and their parents about the program.  The King KAPS application is available on the King High School website at http://king.mysdhc.org. Print out the application and have your student give the teacher recommendation forms to his/her academic teachers with the top part completely filled out.  Teachers will then return them to me to be sent to King.  I must also sign and document your child’s GPA, which will not become available until approximately the 3rd week of January.  I then return the application to your student for you to submit to King with the required essay.  The deadline to apply to KAPS is Thursday, February 3.

It is also my job to program your student to his/her assigned neighborhood high school, even if they do not plan to attend there.  Please look over the 9th grade elective sheet when it comes home, sign it, and have your student return it to me.  Magnet acceptance letters are usually sent out by around the first week of March, so please keep me posted as to where your student will be attending high school.  Thanks for all of your cooperation!

All 8th graders will be writing an essay in their Language Arts class on Monday, November 15.  If your child plans to apply to a magnet program, this is the essay that will be scored as part of the magnet program application process.  It is very important that your child be present that day.

The Magnet Program Open house dates are now posted on the School District website, www.sdhc.k12.fl.us.  Follow the links to Choice, Magnet Programs, and then Open House Dates.
