Our Governing Board Members - 2010-2011 School Year
Mrs. Carol Hines-Cobb is an Assistant Director for Academics at the University of South Florida Graduate School, working closely with graduate education curriculum and policy. Mrs. Hines-Cobb has a M.A. in History from USF. She also serves as a Director in the Homeowner's Association of Raintree Terrace (HART), a member of the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, and an active parent volunteer. She and her husband Mark live in Temple Terrace with their daughter and son, who is a recent TCMS graduate now attending the King High School AP Program.
Jeffrey Huggins has been involved in the Temple Terrace community for more than 25 years, as a newspaper editor of the Beacon and Temple Terrace News; as a legislative aide for the Florida House of Representatives, District 60; and as Director of Legislative Advocacy for the USF Alumni Association where he facilitated several nationally recognized legislative intern programs. Mr. Huggins holds a BA in History from USF and a certificate in radio announcing from the Columbia School of Broadcasting, and is currently employed as Legislative Aide to Tampa City Councilman Joe Caetano. His youth volunteer activities include Boy Scouts of America, Unity of Tampa Board of Trustees Youth Ed Liaison, and former youth soccer coach. He and his wife, Anne Marie, have a son, who has attended Temple Terrace area schools since 2002.
Ms. Nancy Hutson, Board President, is the Vice President of Entertainment for Busch Gardens and Adventure Island. She holds a degree in Education from the University of Tampa. An active community volunteer, she is a member of the Temple Terrace Junior Woman's Club, secretary of the Arts Council and a Leadership Tampa '06 alumni. She and her husband Mark live in Temple Terrace with their three sons; two are students at TCMS.
Lew Kirk, Ph.D., is a founding member of TCMS and also of the School Improvement Team at Lewis Elementary. He is a medical practice administrator and has been very involved in the Temple Terrace community for many years. Dr. Kirk holds an MA and Ph.D. in Political Science.
Ms. Alba Mas, Vice President is a Registered Landscape Architect and Professional Engineer. She received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Florida and a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of South Florida. Ms. Mas is Director of the Tampa Regulation Department of the Southwest Water Management District.
Mr. Vinny Medero is the Vice President of Advantage Steel, Inc. in Tampa. Mr. Medero was raised in Temple Terrace, FL. He is a graduate of King High School and The University of South Florida, where he earned a B.S. degree in Finance. Mr. Medero is a member of the Temple Terrace United Methodist Church and serves on its Board of Trustees and its Youth Advisory Committee. Mr. Medero lives in Temple Terrace with his two daughters
Robert Negron, 2010-2011 Faculty Representative to the Board, was born and raised in Puerto Rico and lived there until graduating from high school. Growing up, he participated in basketball, track and field and baseball. His favorite was baseball, which he played from the age of 4 to the age of 20, finishing the last two years as a Spartan at the University of Tampa. A graduate in 2006, he since has taught at several schools as a substitute teacher, and been a co-lead instructor with the county school aftercare program. Driven and enthusiastic, he now enters his third year at TCMS and is ready to continue to promote good sportsmanship, positive attitudes, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Mr. Stanley Mykita, PRA Representative to the Board - is currently the Assistant Principal of San Antonio Elementary School in Pasco County. Prior to that, he was an administrator at Rodney B. Cox Elementary School for four years. He also taught low income and needy students in Hillsborough County at several elementary schools for nine years. He holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary Education, and a Masters degree in Educational Leadership. His certifications include Educational Leadership, Elementary Education, and English Speakers of Other Languages.
Mr. Mykita also proudly served our country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force for nine years, and is a life-long resident of Tampa, Florida.
Mr. Gil Schisler, Board Treasurer is a founding member of the Board who is committed to the fiscal integrity of Terrace Community Middle School and the Foundation on which it was created. He brings his business operations and financial background to TCMS from his years of professional experience as the Divisional Controller for the Fluid Regulation Division of CIRCOR International. He holds an Accounting Degree from the University of South Florida. Mr. Schisler has no children at TCMS. His being active with TCMS is merely a continuation of his deep commitment to the community.
Steven C. Shivers, Ph.D., He has a B.S. degree in Microbiology from the University of Florida, an M.S. degree in Immunology from the University of Central Florida, and a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Shivers is a founding board member and his son Justin was a member of the inaugural 6th grade class at TCMS. His son and daughter Kelley have each graduated from TCMS and have gone on to attend the IB program at King High School and college.
Ms. Lynne Volpe is originally from New York City and has lived in the Temple Terrace area for over 30 years. She received a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida in 1975, and retired in 2005 from the Hillsborough County School District. Ms. Volpe's last position with the district was as Assistant Principal for Magnet Curriculum at King High School, in charge of the International Baccalaureate Program. Currently, she is an educational consultant working primarily with schools applying for International Baccalaureate Authorization.
Mrs. Jacquelyn Zebos, Secretary, is an executive manager for Hillsborough County Public Library System. She holds a B.A. degree in Communication and two Masters Degrees, one in Information Science and the other in Public Administration, all from the University of South Florida. She lives in Temple Terrace with her husband and daughter, a recent graduate of TCMS, who now attends Tampa Catholic High School.
